The start of a New Year is a great time for us to get back to the basic. So many of us are busy taking care of others- that we set ourselves on auto pilot and do things without even thinking twice.

I'll give you a quick run down of the essential tools that will make all the difference for your styling efforts!

Do you remember the last time you bought yourself a new brush to blow dry with? This tool is absolutely crucial and ultimately what gives you the finished look like you've just left the salon!

What should I look for when I'm buying a new brush?

You want the brush to have a handle that has no rubber around it. We find that the rubber grabs random hairs causing unnecessary breakage. I'm a huge fan of the Paul Mitchell brushes!

Pro tip: The bigger the brush, the straighter the end result. The smaller the brush- the more curl you'll have.

The next important aspect of styling that gets overlooked is the nozzle for our dryers. This would be the little attachment that you've usually tossed to the back of the closet and have no idea what purpose it serves.

So I need a nozzle eh?

The nozzle may also be referred to as a concentrator. It concentrates that air flow to a more specific section and eliminates unwanted frizz. The nozzle will also be a barrier between the heat from your dryer and your hair. You'll have shinier locks and less frizz plus less heat damage! Isn't that what everyone wants?!

Do you section your hair when you begin using your brush or do you grab a random section and just hope for the best? You're not alone if random sections are your jam - just don't expect salon results with this method.

The next tool you'll want to have handy for a blow dry is clips. Sounds so simple right? When we're on auto pilot this is something we often forget!

How do I know which clips are good?

The best kind of clips are called "alligator clips" and you can get them at the salon with yours truly! I find these to be the best for all hair types.

You want to have 2 clips handy. You'll use one for a quick half up / half down and the other for sub sections on the lower half.

There are so many more tools available for styling and it truly depends on what your desired look is for what other tools you should add to your collection.

Todays mentioned tools are truly the basics for giving yourself a great blow out. The nozzle, a great brush and a few clips will make such a difference.

If you're still having trouble styling- it's time for you to bring your tools to your next appointment and we'll have a blowout lesson together!

Stay fabulous Ladies, and Happy New Year🥂🎉

With love,

Kay
